Midline Catheters

A midline sits deeper in a larger arm vein than a standard IV, so it can stay in place longer and spare patients repeated sticks.

Overview

A midline is a peripheral catheter, typically 8–20 cm long, placed in an upper-arm vein with ultrasound guidance. Its tip stays below the shoulder and does not reach the central veins the way a PICC does. That makes it a good middle ground for shorter courses of compatible IV therapy.

What to expect

  1. 01

    Device selection

We confirm with your provider that a midline is the right device for the therapy prescribed.

  2. 02

    Ultrasound-guided placement

Sterile technique and ultrasound guidance, at your bedside.

  3. 03

    Maintenance

Scheduled flushing and dressing changes until therapy is complete, then removal.
